Profile: Specialty Appliances is a full service orthodontic laboratory specializing in the fabrication of the Herbst® appliance. We also offer a complete line of metal appliances, retainers, splints, functional appliances and indirect bonding services. Our Standard Banded Herbst® appliance utilizes bands on all first permanent molars for anchorage and a 0.040" transpalatal arch is added to the maxillary arch for stability. Our Specialty Crown Cantilever Herbst® uses the first molars for anchorage with stainless steel crowns or rollo® bands. A wire rest is placed from this cantilever arm to the lower first bicuspid or second deciduous molars and archwire tubes are added to the upper first molars & to the lower cantilever arm at the first bicuspid area. This Herbst can have a lingual arch added as an option.
